Witches Paddle at Lake Jenkinson
October 24 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Pollock Pines, 11a–2p
Calling all witches, warlocks, wizards, ghouls, goblins, and other imaginative creatures. Bring your own paddleboard, kayak, canoe, inflatable, or other lake-appropriate watercraft and join us for a fun afternoon of costumed paddling on Lake Jenkinson. Despite the name, you do not have to dress as a witch. Wear any costume you would enjoy—as long as it allows you to see clearly, move freely, paddle safely, and get back onto your watercraft if necessary. Decorated watercraft and broomsticks are welcome too, provided nothing interferes with safe operation or creates litter in the lake. There is no registration and no event fee.
• Each participant is responsible for paying any Sly Park Recreation Area entrance and watercraft-launch fees.
• Bring your own watercraft, paddle, properly fitted life jacket or personal flotation device, and all other necessary safety equipment. Paddleboarders should also bring an appropriate leash.
• There will be no lifeguards, rescue personnel, equipment, instruction, or organized safety support provided for this gathering. Every participant is responsible for deciding whether conditions and the activity are appropriate for their own experience and abilities.
• Children and minors must remain under the direct supervision of a responsible parent or guardian.
• October water can be very cold, even when the air feels comfortable. Dress appropriately, bring warm layers and dry clothing, and be prepared for changing mountain weather.
• Costumes and decorations should not block your vision, restrict movement, become entangled, or make it difficult to swim or climb back aboard.
• All participants must follow Sly Park Recreation Area rules, boating requirements, and any inspection or invasive-mussel procedures in effect that day. Please arrive with your watercraft clean, drained, and dry.
• Dogs are not permitted in Lake Jenkinson because it is a drinking-water reservoir.
Weather and lake conditions will be evaluated as the date approaches. Please check the event page before leaving home in case conditions require a change or cancellation. Prefer to stay dry? Spectators are welcome to watch and wave from the shore. Come as elaborately dressed—or as comfortably dressed—as you like. The whole idea is simply to share a little Halloween fun on one of Pollock Pines’ most beautiful lakes.
